protein shake

A protein shake is a drink that helps you build muscle, improve your health or lose weight.

The idea is that you are providing yourself with a convenient way to increase your protein intake.

This is useful because protein is what the body uses to build muscle,💪🏾 make neurotransmitters and also repair any injuries.

But, not all protein shakes🥤 are made equal.

If you are going to get the best benefits from it, you need to choose your protein powder wisely.

Let’s look at how you can get the most out of your protein shakes and how to choose the best form of protein for you!

Types of Protein Powders

protein shake

When you buy protein powder, you’ll have a ton of different options to choose from.

You can choose whey protein, casein protein, egg protein,🥚plant-based protein🍏🍇🥦🥒🥕🍓🍊🍐 (this is the kind I use) or soy protein to name a few!

Whey protein is a good option to create your protein shakes with.

If you are vegan, vegetarian, or can’t do dairy🥛 products then STAY AWAY FROM WHEY!

Your stomach and whole being will thank you if you do. 😊

Granted I am a big advocate for plant-based protein powders because it is gentler in your stomach and digestive tract.

Whey protein is a by-product of the cheese🧀 making process.

It has many health benefits and can be absorbed into the body pretty easily.

Whey protein is more bioavailable when compared to soy or casein protein and cheaper when compared to eggs!🥚

The only exception to this rule is that casein protein may be a better choice if you are making a shake before bed.

The reason for this is because casein protein absorbs slower, providing a steady release of its amino acids into the body throughout the night.💤

If you are vegan or vegetarian like me, a plant-based protein is the next best thing compared to whey.

I enjoy a plant-based protein because it digests better and doesn’t give you a lot of bloating or digestive issues that whey protein can give.

Protein powders come in a variety of mixtures and flavors so try to find one that doesn’t have a ton of carbs, sugars, and fats added to it.

If it does, your healthy drink just turned into an unhealthy one.

Best Plant-Based Protein Powders You Should Look Into

protein shake

Again, plant-based protein powders🌿 are one of the best kinds of protein powders to have.

It is easy to digest and doesn’t give you those negative side effects 👎🏾 that animal-based protein powders🥛 can give you.

The search for the best plant-based protein powder began when I got home from the gym 🏋🏾‍♀️ one day and made my usual protein shake.

I drank it like normal, but later on, throughout the day, my stomach began to make noises and it hurt all day.

I was in constant pain and I couldn’t figure out why.

At the time, I did not know it was my protein shake until I tried it again the next day and I realized it was the culprit.

Because of that realization, I started to look for an alternative protein powder that wouldn’t hurt my stomach all day.

If you are looking for a plant-based protein powder🌿 then keep on reading.😊

protein shake

When I first started looking for a plant-based protein powder,🌿 many of the ones I found tasted HORRIBLE!

It was like I was drinking cardboard.

I knew I couldn’t go back to animal-based protein powder so I knew I had to keep looking.👀

I finally stumbled across Yuve and I got one of their samples for free to try out the product.

The flavor I got the vanilla bean flavor.

This vegan plant-based🌿 protein powder is ranked as the Best Tasting Vegan Protein Shake by PETA and was also a winner of the 2015 Vegnews Magazine’s Veggie Awards.

With no “natural” flavors or anything artificial in this powder, you can enjoy a great tasting, low-calorie meal replacement drink as it gives you the energy💥 you need to get through the day.

One serving contains 15 grams of plant-based protein (from peas and brown rice), 8 grams of fiber (which help you feel fuller longer) and only 2 grams of sugar along with vitamins, minerals, probiotics, prebiotics and antioxidants from whole foods.

I made a smoothie with this protein powder by adding bananas,🍌 strawberries,🍓 mangoes, that protein powder packet, and coconut water.🥥💦

I fell in love instantly!

It tasted like a strawberry and bananas ice cream shake.🍓🍌🍦

So, Yuve is one of my favorite plant-based protein powders to use.

I make a protein shake with it every day.

It is not only packed with amazing nutrition like fiber, antioxidants, digestive enzymes, raw chia seeds to keep you full longer, it also tastes amazing!

With one scoop of this protein powder, you get 15 grams of protein and 25 superfoods.

The sugar content is super low which is the cherry 🍒 on top.

No more cardboard flavor!

Vega One

protein shake

Vega One is another protein powder that I really enjoy.

It comes in a variety of flavors like vanilla chia, chocolate, vanilla, coconut almond (my favorite especially with coconut water 🥥💦), and many more.

With one scoop of this powder, it gives you 20 grams of protein which is a lot for a plant-based protein.

They also have a sports line of protein powders and in one scoop you get about 30 grams of protein.

Some of those flavors include vanilla, chocolate, and mixed berry (my other favorite).

I enjoy drinking most of these protein powders by itself with coconut water.

No fruits or almond milk needed.

I just add the ingredients, shake and go!

protein shake

This is another amazing plant-based🌿 protein powder.

It helps you to unlock your inner warrior…literally!

SunWarrior protein is one of the newest protein powders I have tried recently.

The taste was good and I enjoyed drinking it in the morning.☀️

I got the vanilla flavor and it tasted more like chocolate 🍫 to me, but I didn’t mind it.

The taste was rich and I just felt like this protein powder empowered me in a way (I wish I knew how to explain this better…).

I felt like a warrior every time I drank it.

Packed with rich nutrients from hemp seeds and berries, with just 1 and a half scoops, this protein powder gives you 24 grams of protein!

It is free of soy, dairy,🥛 GMOs, sugar, and gluten, plus it’s raw, certified organic, and vegan!

Super easy to take with you on the go and you no longer have to waste any time trying to find the scooper since it is attached to the lid!

Especially, when I drank it first thing in the morning since I am not a morning person.☀️🙅🏾

It gave me energy right away and I was able to tackle anything the day threw my way.

This protein powder had rice and quinoa in it which helped to keep me fuller longer.

It is easy to digest and it smelled like a vanilla coffee☕️ to me.

This was definitely an interesting (in a good way) plant-based protein powder.

Enjoy being healthy and giving your body wholesome nutrition on the go!

How To Make Your Smoothie or Protein Shake

protein shake

Drinking a smoothie with just water and protein powder isn’t very tasty unless you get the right kind of protein powder.

I do this sometimes, but that’s if I am literally running out the door.

If you have the time, you can definitely create a delicious smoothie by adding some wholesome flavors.

These flavors can include but are not limited to bananas🍌, strawberries🍓, kale, raspberries, blackberries, peanut butter🥜, mangoes, spinach, chia seeds, pineapples🍍, apples🍎, oranges🍊, flax seeds, cherries🍒, and various other ingredients.

The key here is to put different flavors together so that you get the maximum health benefits from your smoothie.

Adding whole milk🥛, yogurt, almond milk (I do this since I can’t drink milk), coconut water🥥 💦, etc to improve absorption and testosterone production for example.

Adding strawberries🍓 for vitamin C and antioxidants or an avocado🥑 for some healthy fats are another great option.

All this will provide a ton of extra health benefits and the most out of your protein shake!

To Wrap Things Up…

Making a protein shake is the best way to get in added nutrients that you wouldn’t normally get from your daily diet.

You are able to sneak in veggies🥦🥕🥒🍅 and some fruit🍎🍓🍌🍇🍊 to get wholesome nutrition into your body.

Protein shakes can either help you lose weight, build muscle, 💪🏾 or even gain weight if you are trying to bulk up.

Based on the ingredients you add to your shake will determine the kind of results you get.

To maximizing your protein shakes,

Morgan Green
