There are many different opinions when it comes to detoxing.
The fact still remains that detoxing is more than just losing weight or following a trend that the celebrities or YouTube influencers are doing.
The main goal of detoxing is to eliminate toxins from the body that could have been caused by the environment, industrial chemicals, pesticides, additives in foods, secondary smoke, pollutants, heavy metals, etc.
You can also ‘detox’ your mind of negativity, stress, and anxiety through the form of meditation.
My blog post on ‘How To Start Mindful Meditation’ goes into more details about this so go check it out!

What Is Detoxing?
Detoxing is one of the best holistic ways to keep your mind and body healthy.
Meditation aids in detoxing by focusing the mind on slowing down your thought process and letting go of anything that may be hindering you or causing negativity.👎🏾
It also helps to bring more positivity into your life too.
As previously stated, detoxing is also used to cleanse the body.
Did you know that detoxing your body can help it to heal?
When you detox, you are giving your body added nutrition and or giving it a break from breaking down hard foods.
It can then use that energy⚡️elsewhere in the body like healing different parts that need it.
The Best Way To Detox Your Body
Now, detoxing the body has a ton of different benefits.
It aids in getting rid of unexplained headaches, back pain, knee pain caused by inflammation, joint pain, memory loss, and many more ailments.
It can actually help to reverse a lot of these symptoms too.
Detoxing also brings strength to brittle hair and nails 💅🏾and helps to get rid of harmful drugs out of your system.
What is an Internal Detoxification?
Many people opt-in for an internal detoxification to make sure that their insides stay clean and in tip-top shape.
Internal detoxification targets the kidneys, liver, colon, and other organs that are involved in flushing chemicals and toxins out of the body.
Detoxing purifies your blood as well which usually does not happen on a regular diet.
It also strengthens your immune system to be able to fight against disease better and helps to balance out hormone levels.
This is the goal of detoxing.🥬🍎 🍐 🍊 🥗
Just as a side note, a detox is not a diet or lifestyle, but instead, it is…
A short-term way of eating to help the body get rid of toxins easier and faster.
Now the question you may be asking yourself is “can detoxing help you lose weight?”
Yes, detoxing can help you lose weight but the main goal is for it to cleanse the body.
Research, Research, Research
Knowledge is power if you want to have a successful detoxing experience.
When you know what to expect you will be more inclined to stick it out until the end even when it gets a little tough.
Become a student 👩🏾🎓📚🤓 again and learn as much as you can about detoxing before you start.
If you do this, you will thank me later.
The Diet Detox is a great book by Brooke Alpert.
In this book, you will learn more about detoxing and how to get the maximum benefits from it.
You will also learn how to detox properly so that you are not getting the negative side effects like gaining weight.
Yes…it is possible to gain weight while detoxing.
That is the last thing you would want to do.🙅🏾♀️
It will also (in a way) defeat the whole purpose of going on the detox in the first place.
This book will help to prevent that!
How To Detox Properly
There are many different ways to detox your body.
One great way to detox is something that you should be doing every single day and that is DRINKING WATER! 💦
Drinking detox water is a great way to flush out your system first thing in the morning.☀️
I drink a 32oz of infused water with fruits, 🍏🍇🍓🍋🍊🍍veggies, 🥒🥕and some herbs🌱🌿 before I eat in the morning.
This allows me to finish getting rid of leftover toxins that were not removed the night before.
Along with that, I am re-hydrating 💦 my body too.
Another way to detox your body is to do a 1 to 3-day juice fast.
This is a great way to give your body a break from using energy⚡️ to break down food.
It would allow it to use that energy somewhere else like healing.
You could also do a 7 Day All Organic Detox.
The options are endless when it comes to cleansing the body and getting rid of toxins.
Test drive a few different detox programs within a 6-8 month span to see which one works the best for you.
Also, if you can find a group of friends or create your own group (on Facebook, meetup.com, etc) and do the detox together, it makes it so much easier to complete it!
It also makes it a lot more fun too.😊
My Experience Detoxing
I did a 30 Days to Healthy Living Detox and boy did I see and feel some AMAZING changes to my body.
For starters (and this may be gross), my bowel movements were so much better.
I had a ton more energy⚡️throughout the day and my sleep 😴was more restful.
I felt light after eating instead of feeling heavy all the time.
My skin cleared up a lot from different blemishes and pimples and I lost some weight too, about 8 lbs.
Losing weight was not my main concern at the time.
I really wanted to know which foods were making me feel so bad and sluggish all the time.
By the way, detoxing also shows you which foods your body actually doesn’t like or should lessen the amount you consume.
This detox revealed to me that gluten makes me sleepy and sugar instantly makes me hungry even after I just ate.
This would then cause me to eat more.
This detox also showed me that I have a HUGE sweet tooth, 🍰🍭🍬🍫🍧🍪🍩🍦🎂 and if something was too sweet my ears would get itchy.
Many of the foods I was eating were supposed to be “good” for me like things with “All Natural Ingredients”.
But instead, they were actually hurting me and causing a lot of digestive issues.
This detox revealed to me that I needed to be more self-aware of what I was putting into my body.
A big food manufacturer company doesn’t care about what I put into my body, so I have to.
You only get one body to live in so you have to treat it right. If this one breaks down, you can’t get a new one.
What I Didn’t Like About Detoxing👎🏾
The main thing I didn’t like about detoxing was the detoxing process itself.
What I mean by this is that I was going to the bathroom way more than usual.
I had stomach pains and a few headaches as well.
I didn’t know this earlier, but when I got itchy (like really itchy), it was because the toxins were leaving my body fast.
Those things kind of stunk, but it is all part of the process.
My body was trying to get those toxins out and that was its way of showing me that it was.
I try to do a detox at least once a month.
I would either do a juice or smoothie cleanse for about 3 to 5 days.
To Wrap Things Up…
If you are interested in trying a detox to see which foods are causing you pain, sluggishness or is just making you feel poopy💩 (yes I said it), then I say do it!
Make sure you do the research before you start and listen to your body while on the detox.
It will be hard the first couple of days or the first few hours (depending on how long you are detoxing for), but try not to quit because the results you receive will be a huge eye-opener!
To detoxing the right way,
