As our lives continue to get busier and busier, cleaning your home🏡 seems to be getting put on the back burner more and more.
It is for me.
When I do get around to cleaning, I like to use organic cleaning products.🌿🧼🧽
These products assure me that I am not spreading harmful chemicals around my house.🏡
Some of these harmful chemicals☠️ include ammonia, nonoxynols, methyl chloride, bleach and (unfortunately) many more.
We all know that these products have been deemed “safe” to be used by the general public if used appropriately, but long-term contact with these ingredients can have lasting side effects that are not pretty.🙅🏾♀️
The scarier part about all of this is that cleaning product companies 🧼🧽🚿do not have to disclose the ingredients they use on their packaging which does not sit well with me at all!
It shouldn’t with you either.
The only way to live a healthy lifestyle is by knowing what is going into your body, on your body, and in your home!🏡
The main question here is what are organic cleaning products 🌿🧼🧽made of?
Many organic cleaning products consist of eco-friendly ingredients.🌿🍋
These ingredients include lactic acid, citric acid, enzymes, essential oils and other ingredients that are derived from natural origins.
There are no chemicals or harmful ingredients in these kinds of products and that is why I use them all the time!
The Issue With Standard Cleaning Products Today🧼🧽🚿
Many of the cleaning products on the market today are filled with a lot of harsh chemicals ☠️that are harmful to your body in more ways than one.
You may not even realize the damage that using these cleaning products are causing.
Most of the chemicals in these products many people cannot pronounce or even know what they are.
I have to keep Google in my back pocket every time I go to the grocery store🏪 if I want to have any idea as to what I am looking at.
While these cleaners do clean your home🏡 and kill off many harmful bacteria, what else is it possibly killing off or damaging?
And I do not mean home wise…I mean body wise.🤲🏾👃🏾👂🏾🧠👀
How safe are these chemical cleaners for you and your family?
Let’s take a quick little look as to how “safe” these chemical cleaners are.
Are Standard Cleaning Products Safe?🧼🧽
From the American Lung Association, they share how household products affect your health.
They state that,
Many cleaning supplies or household products can irritate the eyes or throat, or cause headaches and other health problems, including cancer. Some products release dangerous chemicals, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Other harmful ingredients include ammonia and bleach. Even natural fragrances such as citrus can react to produce dangerous pollutants indoors.
To read more about the American Lung Associations research on the harmful effects of these chemical cleaners, click HERE.
As you can see (and if you clicked on the link and read more) these home🏡 cleaning products can be very dangerous for you and your family.
By the way, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are gases that are emitted into the air 💨 from products or processes.
These compounds can be found both indoor and outdoor.
If the home🏡 cleaning products you are using have these kinds of compounds in them, it is wise to find new cleaning products🧼🚿…ASAP.
These compounds are not something to mess around with.
WARNING! If you are currently using these kinds of home products, never mix bleach or any bleach-containing products with any cleaner containing ammonia.
Mixing any of these chemicals together could lead to chronic respiratory problems, a huge allergic reaction, and even death.☠️
These chemicals could be mixed by accident or by someone in your family who doesn’t know the dangers the mixing of these chemicals poses.
It’s not worth the risk 🙅🏾♀️so try to find an organic cleaning product 🌿🧼🧽at all costs.

My Experience Using Non-Organic Cleaning Products
When I was younger (11 or 12 years of age), I had to clean the bathrooms🚽🚰🚿🛁 every Saturday morning☀️ (I usually did it Friday night🌙 since I liked to sleep😴 in on Saturday).
My mom always told me to open a window or put the fan on when cleaning, but that only did so much especially if there wasn’t any wind💨 that day to blow those harmful chemicals out of the bathroom.
Anyways, when I first started to clean the bathroom, I wouldn’t wear anything on my hands🤲🏾 or over my nose👃🏾or mouth. 👄
I was a kid👧🏾 and didn’t know that much of the dangers that these chemicals had at the time.
The home cleaners I used had such a strong chemical smell that it actually began to make the inside of my nose burn.🔥
Another side note about my life, I had chronic nosebleeds as a kid and working around those chemicals DEFINITELY did not help.🙅🏾♀️
Side Note: A great organic cleaner you should look into is called ‘Mrs. Meyer’s.’ They are not only organic and keep you and your family safe from those harmful chemicals, but they are also SUPER EFFECTIVE!
I realized that after a few weeks of cleaning, unprotected, I began to realize that I kept getting this burning sensation in my nose, every now and then it bled, my eyes👀 began to water💦 more, my throat began to hurt more and I always had to cough.
These side effects would last for at least half of the day which stunk.
It kind of ruined my Saturday or Friday night 🌙depending on the day I cleaned the bathroom.🚿🚽🛁🚰
Because of this, I began to wear something like a hazmat suit with a mask and gloves.
I looked like a storm trooper from Star Wars just to clean the bathroom!
The mask helped to block out a good amount of the chemicals and their smell, but it did not block out all of them.
It was still hard to breathe and I still coughed a lot when I was around that stuff.
Also, if I got any of the cleaners on my skin, my skin would turn red and I would smell like bleach all day.
Now don’t get me wrong…
These home products do have a pro to them even with my somewhat negative experience with them.
These products do get the job done by getting rid of these harmful bacteria, viruses, germs, etc.
There is a big question that still remains though…
If you could find a product that does all of that (kills bacteria, viruses, and germs 🦠etc) effectively and also keeps your family safe from any negative side effects, wouldn’t you purchase that product instead?
What is Organic Cleaning? Is It The Same Thing As Green Cleaning?🌿🧼🧽🚿
The definition of organic cleaning (from Wikipedia) is…
Green cleaning refers to using cleaning methods and products with environmentally friendly ingredients and procedures which are designed to preserve human health and environmental quality.
Using cleaning products 🧼🧽 that have harsh chemicals and artificial everything in them can cause health problems either immediately or later on in life.
From nose bleeds to chemical burns, why take the risk when there are better, safer alternatives out there?
Cleaning in an organic way has a ton of benefits not only for you and your family, but to the environment as well.
Benefits of Organic Cleaning Products🌿🧼🧽
There are many benefits that come with using organic cleaning products.
For starters, you do not have those harmful chemicals wreaking havoc all over your home and around your family, but there are many more where that came from!
Say Goodbye to Strong Chemical Smells😣
You will no longer be breathing in those harsh chemicals.
No more nose hairs being burned off because of those chemicals!
Long live the nose hairs!👃🏾
Better Air💨 Quality In Your Home🏡
Chemicals not only leave a smell that may drive you insane (it drove me), the chemicals also become airborne and that can cause poor air quality in your home.
When you or anyone else breathe that stuff in, it could cause the whole burning of the nose hairs along with possibly damaging your respiratory system.
It’s like secondhand smoke,🚬 but this is with airborne chemical residue.
When you use organic🌿 cleaning products, the air quality💨 in your home will become significantly better.
No more coughing or trouble breathing!
Along with keeping your home safe for you and your family, you will also be keeping it safe for the people around you too.
They will not be breathing in any of those chemicals either.
Using laundry👚👗👕👖 detergents and softeners with chemicals in them can cause severe irritation to your skin.
If you have sensitive skin, putting clothes on that have been washed with chemicals only makes that sensitivity worse.
When you use organic laundry detergent, you will be able to avoid any kind of irritation.
Say goodbye to itchy skin or rashes due to working with chemicals or even wearing clothes that were cleaned in them.
Especially for those who have skin sensitivity.
If you use organic cleaning products, 🌿🧼🧽you will also no longer run the risk of chemical burns🔥 in your eyes👀 or skin if you accidentally drop or spray it.
There are many more benefits to using organic cleaning products and you can check those out HERE.

The Downsides To Using Organic Cleaning Products🌿🧼🧽
Now you may be thinking, “wait… isn’t this whole blog in general about promoting the use of organic products?
Why would there be a negative downside to using ANYTHING organic?”
It’s not that there is a negative downside to using organic products.
It is more of not all organic products 🌿🧼🧽are made equal.
Knowing the best ones to purchase is key 🔑to living a more chemically free lifestyle.
Unfortunately, there are still 2 main cons when it comes to purchasing and using organic cleaning products.
Unfortunately, purchasing these products can get pricey.
Any product that utilizes more natural ingredients🌿🍋 is more expensive than products that have mass-produced chemicals in them.
Nonetheless, prices are beginning to gradually decline👇🏾 which is good!
Many people wonder… are natural cleaners effective?
Many have the notion that if they cannot smell👃🏾the chemicals (and have my nose hairs burn) then it is not working.
We can all agree that if you have a clogged drain, the effectiveness of a chemical drain cleaner is evident.
As toxic as these chemicals are, once again, they get the job done.
They were made to get rid of stains, cut through grease, and get rid of clogs.
What many people may not realize though, is that standard home🏡 cleaning products have antibacterial ingredients in them.
Over time, the bacteria 🦠become immune to these ingredients.
So instead of killing off the bacteria, you are actually, (possibly) hurting yourself and your family.
The routine use of natural products has a greater benefit overall than the periodic use of chemical cleaners.
Using more natural products will require a little bit more elbow grease, but the advantages outweigh the disadvantages tremendously!
Now, to touch a little bit more on the main downside to purchasing organic🌿 products…the cost.
Even though the cost is a big downside when it comes to organic cleaning products, there are ways to get around this.
The biggest way is to make your own home🏡 cleaning products.
They not only cut down👇🏾 costs, but they also provide the same antiseptic, sterilizing and grease cutting properties than their non-organic counterparts have.
How To Make Organic Cleaning Products🌿🧼🧽
Again, the best way to get healthy and stay healthy is by knowing what is going into your body, on top of your body and what is going into your home.
