It is a part of life that I wish none of us had to deal with.
Stress can be helpful especially if you need to run🏃🏾♀️ or fight for your life.
Other than that, stress can be super damaging both to your mental🧠 and physical💪🏾 health.
Stressful situations are an inevitable part of life as well.
To be able to handle these kinds of situations, you need to know what causes your stress levels to rise.
This short, yet effective blog post is going to give you some tips and tricks to be able to pinpoint the things that trigger you and how to come up with ways to handle stress when it comes your way.
Finding Your Stressors🕵🏾♀️
Being able to pinpoint📍the source of your stress😩 can help you to manage it better as well as be better equipped🛠️ to handle any stressful situations that come your way like a pro.
But how do you figure out what is stressing you out?
Well…this will require a little bit of soul searching…🧘🏾♀️
Yes, I am serious!
This will require you to tap into your ‘feelings’ and figure out who or what is stressing you out.
I try to journal at least every other day or when I am stressed out.
Putting what’s on my mind🧠 on paper📝 helps me to get all of my emotions out without getting lost in my thoughts.💭
Journaling helps me to focus and write down every last thing that is making me anxious, worried or stressed out.
If journaling✍🏾️ is not your thing, then the next best alternative is to get yourself a book📖 that can help you tap into your feelings and bring out the source of your stress.
A great book that can help you to do this (along with giving you tips and tricks to managing your stress) is called ‘Anxious for Nothing: Finding Calm in a Chaotic World’ by Max Lucado.
Max Lucado is one of my FAVORITE authors.😍
He is an inspirational and motivational writer who helps many people who are trying to better themselves learn how to do so without letting life get in the way of their progress.
Max Lucado helps you to look at things in a different light💡 and helps you to change your perspective on your current life circumstances.

The Side Effects of Stress😰
The feelings of stress are very noticeable and I am pretty sure you know what those feelings well…feel like.
You may feel nervous,😱 agitated,🙄 overwhelmed,😰 sweaty💦 or you may even feel a headache come on.
I mentioned this in another one of my blog posts,📇 but when I get stressed out, I get an ocular migraine, nosebleed, and/or have dreams💭 about life-size talking spiders🕷🕸 (yea I know that last one is weird,😳 but it is sadly true).
An ocular migraine is a migraine that causes temporary distortion in your vision and excruciating pain in your head.
These bad boys are NOT fun!🤷🏾♀️
I get super sensitive to light,💡 noises,🔊honestly… life in general.🤦🏾♀️
I usually have to sleep😴 those guys off if I want to be able to function later.
I usually do not take medicine💊 for my migraines because a lot of medicine mess up my stomach.
The last thing I need is a terrible headache with a messed up stomach.
No thank you!

Figuring Out Your Physical Symptoms
Knowing your physical symptoms when it comes to stress is key.👌🏾
This allows you to know if the situation you are in is about to become stressful.
If you do not know YOUR stress symptoms, try to pay close attention to the way your body reacts the next time you are in one.
If you know YOUR stress symptoms, the worst thing you could do is ignore them.
Unfortunately, hoping these symptoms just go away is not going to work..trust me I have tried!
Instead, things get worst and you end up harming yourself more.
In order to best manage and get control over the stressful thoughts💭 and emotions that come with a stressful situation is to…(this is going to sound weird), but it is to accept your stress. 😰
Literally, accept that you are stressed out at this current moment in time🕰️ and to be okay with that.
By accepting your stress you are not trying to fight it.
Fighting an already stressed out mind🧠 or body only makes it worse.
You already cannot concentrate so trying to fight the fact that you cannot concentrate will only make you concentrate even less.
When I first started to get these ocular migraines, I would get SOOO upset with myself.😡
I would literally beat myself up, even more, thinking things like “These migraines are so annoying. Why do I get them? Why can’t I just get a stomachache or something or nothing at all.”
There are two things TERRIBLY WRONG with this statement…
- Asking why I get these migraines (I could always get something worst…right?🤷🏾♀️)
- Asking why I wish I could get a stomach ache instead.
First off…PAIN IS PAIN IS PAIN!
No matter where the pain is…it is still pain.
Also, even though getting these migraines STINK, I have learned (over the years) the best methods to deal with them.
Also, thinking like this only makes your headache worse.
You could be doing something similar to this…beating yourself up or putting yourself down.
This is not helpful in any way.
Instead, it is actually wasting valuable time🕰️ in coming up with a solution to heal💆🏾♀️ yourself.
Anyways, I can go on and on about this.
Once you have noticed a stressful thought,💭feeling or action, it makes it a little bit easier to notice when your stress levels are beginning to rise.
This will allow you to pinpoint📍 exactly what is the root cause of your stress.
When you are in the know, you will be that much closer to finding a solution to either getting rid of your stressors or to find a way to NOT let them mess up your day.
Developing Your Stress😩 Managing Techniques
Now that you can pinpoint📍 (for the most part) when you are about to get stressed out, it is now time🕰️ to learn some useful techniques that can help you to manage these feelings and thoughts appropriately.
There are a lot of different ways to do this.
Here are some ideas you can try:
- Breathing techniques🌬
- Take a break(you can even close your eyes 👀 for a few minutes)
- Listen to some classical, relaxing music🎶🎧
- Go outside and take a walk🚶🏾♀️🌳☀️(get those steps in)
- Turn off your phone📱 and other devices💻 and just chill
- Talk🗣 to someone you trust about what is stressing you out
There are many other ways to get a better handle on your stress, 😰but these are a good starting point.
Later on, you may come up with a better way to manage YOUR stress.
Get Rid of Stress and Anxiety By Breathing🌬
If you are still figuring out the best way to manage your stress😩 that is perfectly fine.
A great place to start is by remembering to breathe…deeply.
When you do this, you will be able to instantly engage your parasympathetic nervous system which is responsible for the ‘rest and digest’ state.
This state is actually the exact opposite of the ‘fight or flight’ response and it helps you to feel calmer and more relaxed.💆🏾♀️
When you are in a stressful situation, you could begin to speed up your breath and it may become very shallow.
Your heart❤️ will begin to race and your pupils may begin to dilate.
This only makes things worst since your stress levels😩👆🏾 will begin to increase as your blood pressure does so too.
The best thing to do is to stay as calm and collected as possible and breathing in and out slowly and deeply 🌬can help you do so.
How To Handle Stressful Situations…😰
Here are some tips you can try out to help you get rid of stress faster.
Leave a comment⌨️ below👇🏾is you try out any of these tips and how it has helped you!
Tip #1: Self-care…Learn To Love Yourself❤️
You will be able to handle stress better if you are in good physical💪🏾 and mental🧠 shape.
Taking care of yourself by having fun with friends, giving yourself ‘me time’,🛀🏾exercising,🏋🏾♀️ and eating healthy🍏🍌🍓🍍🥦🥒🥕 can really go a long way to lowering your stress levels.
If you don’t take care of YOU, then stress will just run ramped in your life.
You are important and are worthy to get in some time to just chill!
Tip #2: Positive Vibes Only😎
Negative thoughts💭 only bring your mood down and can really mess up your day.
I talked a little bit about this before, but I would put myself down ALL the time in my head.
I was my own worst enemy, bully, etc.
If you are doing this same thing then, PLEASE STOP NOW!!🙅🏾♀️🛑
You are only increasing your stress instead of getting rid of it.
Try thinking more positively about yourself and about the situation you are in currently and try to look at it from a different angle.
This could really help you to not only think outside the box,📦 but it can also help you to develop some new skill sets you may not have had before.
By only allowing positive vibes😎 to come your way through your thinking💭 and your actions, it can really help to build your confidence and also attract more positive people to you as well.
Try to focus on the obstacles that you have overcome rather than on the ones that bring negativity into your life.
Tip #3: Connect with Others
Having a social life is super important.
Not only for your sanity but also to take a little break from whatever it is that is stressing you out.
Expressing what you are going through to someone you trust can help to get some of those emotions and negative feelings off of your chest too.
Sometimes…you just need a good venting session.
I do this ALL THE TIME with my mom and dad!
Especially when I am dealing with people who are abrasive or just frustrating to work with.
Therefore, you should reach out to your close friends and family and find those 1 or 2 people whom you trust and talk🗣 with them.
Who knows…they may even give you some solid advice that can help you deal with that stressful situation.
Tip #4: Accept Things You Cannot Change🤷🏾♀️
Some sources of stress😰 are unavoidable and (for the most part) cannot be changed.
The best way to cope with such stress is to accept things the way they are and try to come up with a solution that can help you to not get stressed out about the situation.
For example, maybe you are dealing with an EXTREMELY stressful person at work.
Unfortunately, that person is probably not going to leave their job tomorrow and you have to continue to work with them.
So, the next best thing you can do is to come up with different techniques to not allow them to stress you out or mess up your day in any way.
This may require you to speak up🗣 during a meeting you are in with that person or maybe you may need to bring your manager into these meetings to deescalate things.
You could even sit down with that individual and talk to them about the situation as a whole.
By just talking🗣 to that person, may help you both.
Who knows…🤷🏾♀️maybe the source of the stress may be miscommunication.
Tip #5: Practice Forgiveness🙏🏾
Learning how to forgive people who wrong you is a challenge in and of itself, but it is something that can help to get rid of a lot of stress in your life without you even knowing it.
When I was younger, I had to deal with a few bullies in my life.
They would pick on me EVERY SINGLE DAY!😒
It was super annoying.
I had to learn to stand up for myself and also to forgive🙏🏾 them for hurting me all those years.
Yes…I went to a private school so I had to deal with them for years!🤦🏾♀️
Anyways, my mom always told me that by not forgiving them I was giving them my power.
When I first heard this I was like, “yep, my mom has officially lost it and now she is spewing this mumbo jumbo stuff.”
As I have gotten older, I have realized that she was on to something!😏
When you focus on the hurt someone has caused you, you are literally giving your power to them by thinking💭 about them and allowing those hurt feelings to arise again and again and again.😩
All this is doing is increasing your blood pressure and possibly bringing on a migraine.
It did for me, EVERY TIME I thought about those individuals.
I am by NO MEANS telling you to just build a bridge🌉 and get over it because forgiveness is NOT something simple to do.
It is NOT a ‘one and done’ thing either.
You may need to forgive that person a few times before it sticks.
Be patient with yourself.
It takes time to get to a point of forgiveness.🙏🏾
This could take days, weeks, months or even years.
It took me a good 4 years before I was able to truly forgive the people who hurt me all those years ago.
When I did finally forgive 🙏🏾them though…the sun☀️ finally began to shine once again.
A great book📖 that I found that can help you to learn how to forgive those individuals who hurt you is called, ‘Forgiveness: 21 Days to Forgive Everyone for Everything’ by Iyanla Vanzant.
Definitely check this book out and I hope it helps you to regain your power back.
Forgiveness🙏🏾 is for you, to help you to heal NOT for the person who caused the pain.
Tip #6: Utilize Meditation🧘🏾♀️
If you have read my earlier posts about meditation, you would have realized that mediation is one of the best ways to relieve stress along with yoga.
Meditation helps you to take back control of your mindset🧠 and not allow any (and I mean any) negative thoughts💭 to mess up your day or run your life.
You are more than your thoughts and meditation🧘🏾♀️ teaches you how to deal with those thoughts and not give them ANY energy.⚡️
They do not even deserve that precious space in your mind.🧠
Remember tip #2?
Positive Vibes ONLY!😎
To Wrap Things Up…
Stress😩 is a normal part of everyday life, but it is a choice to how far you will allow it to affect you.
You could allow it to affect you negatively🙃 or positively.🙂
The choice is yours.
Just remember, that you have the power to change ANYTHING in your life and this includes stressful situations too.
Try out some of these tips and tricks mentioned in this post and see how you become a master of your stress.😰
